This project was conceived after reading about a horrific domestic violence incident. I had three young children at the time and was profoundly impacted by the horror of it. This work was the first in a series created in an attempt to sit with those feelings. The vintage doll created an emotional connection, an ‘in’ if you like. Initial experiments provided this powerfully emotional image of opposing forces. Vulnerability and defiance, scarred, damaged and yet poetic.
